Leviticus 1:1-2, "And the Lord called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock."
My prayer this morning is for the children of God to understand that our communion and fellowship with God is not based on emotionalism, material gain or carnal accomplishments, but is based on the Eternal Son of God. In the verses previously cited, God called unto Moses concerning a people that He had delivered from the bondage of Egypt, that they would understand that fellowship and communion with Him was based on specific offerings. According to Heberews 10:1 these were only types and figures (shadow) of the Sacrifice and Offering made by Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. And if the children of God who have been purchased by His blood are to have communion and fellowship with God in our service, then we must grow in the knowledge of the Eternal Son of God. There are three things that God has given us that we may know more about Jesus Christ and have communion and fellowship with Him in our service, and these are:
(1) The Word of God. The KJV Bible that we all have in our homes has a abundant of information concerning the Son of God. In John 5:39 Jesus said, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." In this verse Jesus teaches us clearly that the Scripture (Bible) is an information book about Him.
(2) The preaching of the gospel. According to Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the very heart of the gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By being at the House of God attentively listening to the gospel being preached, we are able to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
(3) The Holy Ghost. In John 15:26 our Lord calls the Holy Ghost the Comforter. According to Jesus, in this portion of God's Holy Word, "when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me." Herein, dear child of grace, we understand that one of the functions of the Holy Spirit is to testify of the Son of God. The Holy Ghost, that the Church was baptized with, is here at this present time that we could learn more about the Precious Son of God.
In closing I would like to share an experience of mine concerning a mother who had given birth to a healthy baby boy. After the child was born I went to visit with the family to tell them how happy I was for them. After some time in trying to converse with the mother and father, I realized that if I was going to have an exciting interacting conversation, the subject was going to have to be about their new baby boy. Consider this dear child of God. If that child was so precious to them that they wanted to talk about little else, how precious is the Eternal Son to the Father? He is truly, the Beloved, the apple tree among the trees of the wood, the chiefest among ten thousand, and the very center of the attention of heaven (Revelation 5:6), and if we, the children of God, want more fellowship and communion with God in our service, we will need to fix our eyes upon Him. Amen!
